Mark TwainBehold, the fool saith, "Put not all thine eggs in the one basket" - which is but a matter of saying, "Scatter your money and your attention"; but the wise man saith, "Pull all your eggs in the one basket and - WATCH THAT BASKET." - Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar
About This Quote
In the novel "Pudd'nhead Wilson", Mark Twain creates a character who is capable of being witty and wise at the same time. In the story, the main character Pudd'nhead Wilson is arrested for stealing $20. The judge tells him he must pay $900 to the court or go to jail. As you can imagine, this is an unwanted cost. Pudd'nhead simply replies with "Well, I shall have to trust somebody else to do it, then." This line sums up not just what happens later in the story but also how people handle their problems.
